BMW Adventure Motorcycle Rentals – Lifestyle

BMW Adventure Motorcycle Rentals – Lifestyle

Motorcycle Adventure Lifestyle a.k.a “Go where you want , when you want to” If the outdoors and nature as a whole , biking and exploration is what gets you excited….we’re in the same boat. For as long as I do remember, I’ve always felt an affinity with nature. I guess growing up in Vredehoek on the slopes of Table Mountain , Devil’s Peak and Lions Head had something to do with that. In particular there was an abandoned quarry https://viewsofthecity.wordpress.com/2013/08/26/the-devils-peak-quarry-then/ that we just loved as boys. We’d scale the mountains overlooking the dig-out site like lizards. Occasionally if we nagged (just the right amount) we’d get to drag our parents up there with a picnic basket for Sunday lunch. Those are very fond childhood memories but were only the start. I like many others started biking as early as I could afford the 2 wheels. I had a series of , shall we say scrap- heap- destined bikes , including a Honda 250 XLS amd then later a Kawasaki 600 KLR. The single cylinder KLR was only a kick-starter and boy did I kick that thing to get her started. Life then took a turn and I found myself in Europe. Ireland first and then Germany . Both countries have beautiful scenery and places of huge historical importance to visit. It was the how part that was not so appealing. We would most often take a train or bicycle from A to B. Sometimes we’d take our cycles on the train to do our exploration of the various places. We saw a lot and I will always love Europe for that aspect. There is a but… When one is dependent on public transport and let’s face it, compared to Africa and as we are now South African based, Europe’s public transport is golden, efficient and reliable. However one is still always considering the next bus, train or plane time-table to get to your chosen destination. That’s where Adventure Motorcycling not only differs but makes the whole experience so great. There’s no having to rush through a particular site because the tour operator is idling his bus in the parking lot or the panicky feeling that you are going to miss your flight. What about places that are “off the beaten track” but are not accessible by foot or the tour bus “doesn’t go that way “. This is where Adventure Motorcycling absolutely SHINES! Fortunately, renting of motorcycles (particularly adventure style bikes ) has become a lot more popular and easier to do while visiting many countries. Collect your chosen model of bike , load your luggage and head for the hills. Even on a Friday afternoon in peak hour traffic there’s no stopping you on a bike. That overwhelming sense of pity 😉 as you pass hundreds of motorists stuck in bumper to bumper traffic as you exit the city with a smile as wide as an aligator’s & give’s one a tingle all the way up your spine. Whether you plan to pack your own tent and rough it or book a guest-house, lodge or hotel, the sense of freedom in your travelling to your destination is unrivalled as far as transport methods go. One our favourite spots to explore is The Cedarberg Mountain range and for accommodation we love the very friendly backpackers “CedarbergOasis” They offer tenting (bring your own or hire one of there’s with beds and bedding included for each tent ) , chalets and lodges or private rooms within the main house. They have a swimming pool, a restaurant and bar with tv facilities for those wanting to catch the next big game live. “Gerrit, owner-manager, will do your hiking maps by hand, giving you enough information to enjoy your hiking activities. “ Here’s a link to their site if you ever are headed that way. https://www.cederbergoasis.co.za/ Nothing beats that feeling when you know you are going away for a weekend or even longer and doing so with the freedom of being on a motorbike to explore where you want to and when you want to just amplifies that feeling 10 fold. So whatever it is that’s holding you back…stop making excuses , choose a destination , hire a bike and hit the roads to put that smile back on your dial 😉

Why a BMW GS Adventure?

Why a GS Adventure?

Every motorbike owner if given the opportunity, will tell you what it is that they love about their bikes.
Here’s a short list of why I chose the the BMW R1200 GS Adventure:

• Great looks and German Engineering: The GS a come a long way in terms of looks and engineering. There are normally reasons why certain products become “bestsellers” and the GS range is one.

• Fuel Range : With a 30 litre fuel tank the GS Adventure model is difficult to beat on fuel range, meaning less stopping – more riding!

• Power and torque: Although the BMW GS range of bikes are not the most powerful or have the highest torque specs on the market, what they do offer is certainly more than enough power to accommodate yourself, a partner, a Topbox and a pair of fully stuffed aluminium panniers with enough reserve throttle to get out of tricky situation if required.

• Suspension: With the electronically adjustable suspension settings at the touch of a button ( not hidden in a menu setting) it means that you can setup your bike for differences in damping (soft, normal and hard settings ) and you can raise or lower the seat height ( whilst stationary) to fit in with the different styles of road that you travel on .

• Adjustable windshield. A convenient adjustment knob to raise or lower your windshield for differing climates and temperature ranges

• Panniers: Having panniers that are easily fixed to the bike with the same key as used for the ignition, makes for easy loading and unloading of your luggage

• Crashbars: Toppling over with your bike or just plain letting it fall from the side-stand is horrible feeling. It happens more often than most will admit but with the Adventure models, crashbars are fitted as standard.

• Driveshaft: With no routine chain maintenance and the reliability of a driveshaft , that’s a no-brainer.

• Rider modes and safety functions: Changing from Dynamic road mode to Rain mode when the heavens open up on the fly, is a blessing. Traction control and ABS is managed from a single button without the need to navigate menu functions.

• Heated grips: For those chilly winter morning rides

• Cruise control: Say no more, what a luxury.

• Gear Assist Pro: If you have’nt tried this feature on a bike yet, you ‘re missing out. I love the ability to shift both up and down through the gears without the use of a clutch.

The GS Adventure ticked all the boxes for me when it came to reliability, comfort, safety and a touch of luxury.

Safe riding folks

BMW Motorcycle Rentals Cape Town – The Great Outdoors!

BMW Motorcycle Rentals Cape Town – The Great Outdoors!

Let’s face it life is about living and for most of us that means that in order to be living we need to be working. I have chosen after many years of “working to earn” to change that to “working to live”.

We all have our passions and we all dream of doing what we love as a way of earning a living. My passion is Motorbikes. For as long as I can remember being on a bike has been my ultimate idea of freedom.

A couple of years back I bought my dream bike, a  BMW 1200GSA and I was in heaven. It was the beginning of a great journey for me.

On this bike my partner and I have seen more of this beautiful land of ours than I ever have from the confined space of a car.

Besides the sense of freedom that being on a bike gives you there is something else. You become immersed in your surroundings from the seat of your bike. You smell the air. You feel the wind, that separation that you feel in car is gone. You are slicing through the air and feeling it with every part of your body. Your senses are heightened and you are living in the moment.

Driving past fields of flowers or along a coastal road becomes a sensory event. You smell, you see and you feel.

Every trip out on the bike is an adventure and we live in such a beautiful country with so much variety in our landscapes. There is also that sense of brotherhood that the biking community has. It crosses all cultures and creeds and creates a group of people that lives for the freedom of the road and the outdoors.

I feel that it is the best of both worlds having this business and I get to rent out my bikes to offer others the chance to also experience our wonderful country in a way that a tour bus just cannot come near touch.
